The Bunker

Brand identity design for a cosy cafe/bar located in the St Catherine's Hill area of Christchurch, Dorset.

The historic area of St Catherine's hill was used extensively by the military during the Crimean War, the World Wars and was the site of a nuclear bunker during the Cold War. The cafe - bar is an ideal meeting place for dog walkers (and their dogs) as well as friends and families to relax and socialise, whether it be a quick cup of coffee / glass of wine or a leisurely evening.

The Bunker Cafe - Bar exterior signage

The Brief

The client didn’t have any preconceived ideas on the look and feel, apart from we needed to take into consideration its name and the heritage of the local area.

Our Thinking

The client wanted to use a dark grey colouring along with a wood palette in the interior to ensure the cafe felt warm and welcoming to their customers. We put together a colour palette scheme adding a light grey along with brass colouring to warm up the feel of the branding. With the premises being set amongst well-established local businesses, the client wanted The Bunker to stand out from the crowd and look more up-market, we achieved this through the use of exterior colouring, quality signage and window vinyls giving the business a ‘trendy London feel’.

The look of the logo was inspired by a nuclear bunker that was said to be present at St Catherine’s Hill in the Cold War era. The heavy brass coloured key-line surrounding the text nodding at warmth and safety.

Delivering Results

Once the logo and branded look was agreed, we implemented our thinking onto signage, business cards, menus, loyalty cards, gift vouchers, clothing, flyers and external advertising boards, overseeing print and production throughout the process.

The cafe is proving to be a very successful go-to place in the area, and with its close proximity to the A338 it’s easy enough to drop in for a something to eat or a beer / coffee or two!
