The Bunker Cafe/Bar - Branding Design & Photography

The historic area of St Catherine’s hill was used extensively by the military during the Crimean War, the World Wars and was the site of a nuclear bunker during the Cold War. The cafe - bar is an ideal meeting place for dog walkers (and their dogs) as well as friends and families to relax and socialise, whether it be a quick cup of coffee / glass of wine or a leisurely evening.

The cafe/bar is a new business started in 2018 and one of a kind, so we we had free rein to come up with a complete branded look. The brief was to take into consideration its name, and the heritage of the local area; and it’s potential customer base to include dog walkers and families.

The client wanted the cafe to feel warm and welcoming to their customers so we used an ‘on-trend’ dark grey colouring along with a wood palette in the interior, adding a light grey along with a brass colouring to warm up the feel of the branding. The look of the logo was inspired by a nuclear bunker that was said to be present at St Catherine’s Hill in the Cold War era. The heavy brass coloured key-line surrounding the text indicates warmth and safety.

With the premises being set amongst well-established local businesses, the client wanted the business to stand out from the crowd and look more ‘up-market’, we achieved this through the use of exterior colouring, quality signage and window vinyls giving the business a ‘trendy London feel’.

Once the logo and branded look was agreed, we implemented our thinking onto signage, business cards, menus, loyalty cards, gift vouchers, flyers and a-boards overseeing print and production throughout the process. Once the business was up and running we photographed the interior and some sample food dishes to be used on future marketing material and social media.

The Bunker is proving to be a very successful go-to place in the area, and with its close proximity to the A338 it’s easy enough to drop in for a something to eat or a beer / coffee or two!
